Whenever I tell people that I am a psychologist, I just wait for that reaction from them, they usually back off, put up an invisible shield and run. I marvel at how that word invokes such suspicion and fear. I suspect that thought “I must be really crazy” should really be delegated to those primitive innate fears like a fear of snakes or spiders and hasn’t been categorised yet as a modern urban new fear.

Chocolate keeps stress at bay
When I read that, I thought that research has got to be funded by a big chocolate company!
Sure enough, Nestle, headquartered in Switzerland has come up with scientific studies to show that eating about an ounce and a half of dark chocolate a day for two weeks reduced the levels of stress hormones in highly stressed people.

This is a great time to project your wishes onto 2010 and ensure it to be a successful one.

A research study by the University of Melbourne found that women smokers were twice as likely to develop depression than non smokers.
This finding was over a ten year period and only 20 women were involved in the study, but it indicates that further research into the relationship between depression and the effects of nicotine are warranted.
The campaign against smoking has been going for a while yet teenagers are still taking up the habit and the already addicted are finding it extremely difficult to beat. Maybe this new finding will be another reason to kick the habit.
